UFO

The United States government recently released a bunch of UFO files. They contain information on people claiming to have seen alien spacecraft, aliens or both, sightings throughout history and federal, state and local officials with similar claims.

That leads one to ponder a number of issues surrounding the sightings. Since this is an insurance publication, our first look is insurance.

Alien abduction insurance can be purchased. AAI, Alien Abduction Insurance, as it is known, covers the insured in case they can prove an abduction by non-human life forms or aliens.

The UFO Abduction Insurance Company has sold a $10 million policy to over 100,000 Americans worried about being kidnapped or even eaten by little green men. We wonder how they’d collect if they’re eaten but that’s too complex a question to delve into here.

Lloyds of London has sold 20,000 alien policies.

BTW, the UFO Abduction Insurance Company has paid out on two claims. Weekly Industry News was unable to take the time to find the details but two were actually paid.

If a UFO destroys a home, or accidentally lands on one, there is no coverage. However, if a UFO lands on your property and makes holes in the ground, coverage is offered. Any parts of the spacecraft, or leavings from within the vehicle, left by aliens will not be covered if they need hauled somewhere like the dump.

As if spaceship parts would be a problem. They’d be immediately taken by the government. If the government doesn’t want them, they’d be exceptionally valuable and would likely be sold for millions.

We digress.

Personal property can be covered if an alien eats part of a home. Do aliens eat homes? Or people? No details on that either. There are also policies for businesses, damages and harm to people on your property and more. So, on it goes.

That leads to what we believe about aliens. Most Americans — according to a survey by CBS News — believe we are not alone in the universe.

When it comes to UFOs and the government, a big percentage doesn’t think government is exactly honest when it comes to E.T. We also think that about other important issues but that is a topic for another day.

We think government:

Knows more than it is telling — 84%

Has told everything it knows — 16%
