Why advocacy matters
The rules governing your business are written by people who may not fully understand it. PIA Western Alliance ensures the people who do — you and your fellow independent agents — have a powerful voice in shaping them.
Protect your business
Legislation and regulation directly impact how insurance agents and brokers operate. Without a strong advocacy voice, laws can pass that increase compliance burdens, limit market access, or disadvantage independent agents.
Represent independent agents
Large carriers and captive agencies have significant lobbying power. Advocacy ensures independent agents have an equally strong seat at the table.
Speak with one voice
Individual agents have limited influence alone. Through an association like PIA Western Alliance, members speak with one unified, credible voice that carries far more weight.
Shape bills before becoming law
It’s far easier to influence a bill while it’s moving through the legislature than to reverse a law after it’s enacted. Timely advocacy — supported by tools like our state Bill Tracker — allows action while there’s still time to make a difference.

We track legislation activities to keep you informed with our new bill tracker for each state's legislative activity. Navigate to your state from our Western Alliance home page and select the advocacy tab.
Lobbying representation
The PIA Western Alliance currently has active lobbying while in session in Oregon and Washington covering local issues for local agents.
National representation
